Thirty Days Hath November Above the Arctic Circle

Aurora borealis

shadowless nightlights

inverted inertia

ermine drops lemming

moon steals day’s final eight minutes

phone number busy.

Drawn curtains

candle’s reflection in a mirror

owl leaps into wind

sixty-six and one half degrees

north latitude.  Frost heaves,

jimmied door latch

eyelashes freeze together

bear stalks the breathing hole.

Static electric shock

jealous liaison

numb feet

raven clings to tundra.

Stares replace

sightless solstice mask,

tilted aphelion hourglass,

wingless moth on windowsill.

Wrong phone number

fox burrows deeper.

Avoided nod

frost-bitten cheeks

ptarmigan sails beyond a hill.

Voiceless hare, snow chameleon,

patiently awaits

night’s other side.
