The kids out back swing
in a minus sixty degree wind chill.
Wave January good-bye. Inside the gym
the fearless North Stars battle
their nemesis, the Beavers.
It's come down to the fever - season's end
in sight. There is life after basketball.
When morning sky opens, the swings
still jump with life.
An upriver wind rushes through the village
like some unannounced opponent.
Tonight there will be no cheering
from the dogs.
